Paris Sciences et Lettres Universityمعرفی
Sylvia Serfaty is a Professor of Mathematics at Sorbonne University, affiliated with the Jacques-Louis Lions laboratory. She graduated from École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in 1994 and earned her PhD in 1999 on nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. Her research focuses on mathematical analysis of physics models, including the Ginzburg-Landau theory of superconductivity and Coulomb systems. She has held positions at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (NYU, 2001–2008) and is currently an Honorary Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF).
Notable awards include the European Mathematical Society Prize (2004), the Euryi Prize (2007), and the Henri Poincaré Prize (2012). Her work on Abrikosov lattices and crystallization phenomena bridges analysis, statistical physics, and approximation theory. She remains active in international research communities, including a guest professorship at the 2019 ICIAM congress in Valencia.
Her research themes include variational calculus, nonlinear PDEs, and the interplay between Coulomb systems and random matrix theory.
