Sylvia Sellers-García

Professor Sylvia Sellers-García is a faculty member in the Department of History at Boston College, serving as Director of the Lowell Humanities Series. Her academic focus spans colonial Latin America, early modern Spain, and the intersection of history and literature. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.Phil. from St. Antony’s College, Oxford.

Her research explores violence and policing in colonial Guatemala, the history of documents during the Bourbon reforms, and imperial dynamics. Publications include The Woman on the Windowsill (2020) and Distance and Documents at the Spanish Empire's Periphery (2014). Her work bridges archival analysis with narrative forms, emphasizing how historical documents shape our understanding of empire.
