Sylvia Plevritis serves as Professor of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University School of Medicine, with courtesy appointments in Radiology and Bioengineering. She actively teaches core courses including Translational Bioinformatics (CS 275/GENE 217) and mentors students through 16+ independent studies spanning Bioengineering, Cancer Biology, Radiology, and Biomedical Data Science programs across all academic terms.
Her research focuses on computational models of cancer progression, cancer genomics, and translational bioinformatics, developing data-driven frameworks for cancer screening optimization and treatment evaluation. Work emphasizes breast cancer heterogeneity, multi-omics integration, and health economics modeling to bridge computational research with clinical oncology practice.
Dr. Plevritis actively oversees graduate research through CBIO 399, RAD 399, and BMDS 399 courses while directing independent studies in medical scholars research and biomedical informatics pedagogy. Her mentorship spans undergraduate, master's, and doctoral candidates across Stanford's interdisciplinary biomedical programs.
