Sylvia Linan-Thompson serves as Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Education at the University of Oregon, specializing in the Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences with affiliation to the Center on Teaching and Learning.
Education:
- PhD in Special Education from University of Texas at Austin
- MS in Early Childhood/Special Education from University of Miami
- BS in Education from University of Texas at Austin
Research Interests: Dr. Linan-Thompson's work centers on instructional and assessment practices for English learners (ELs), including reading interventions for monolingual English speakers, ELs, and bilingual students in elementary/middle school. Current research examines English writing development in ELs with/without learning disabilities and Response to Instruction efficacy in dual-language schools serving high EL populations.
Professional Activities: She has served as PI/Co-PI on longitudinal intervention research projects and collaborated internationally with World Bank, UNESCO, and USAID on education initiatives across Latin America/Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. Previously faculty at University of Texas before joining University of Oregon.
Research Infrastructure: Affiliated with University of Oregon's Center on Teaching and Learning for educational research implementation.
