Dr. Sylvia D'souza is an International Lecturer in Business Management at the Management School of Lancaster University, within the Organisation Work and Technology department. Before academia, she worked in the information technology and digital communications sectors, notably as Deputy General Manager at Tata Group (2011-2016). She holds a PhD from Lancaster University alongside an MA and BCom degree.

Her research focuses on ethics, practical wisdom (phronesis), embodiment, and difference, adopting interdisciplinary approaches from philosophy and sociology. She explores how universal ethical concepts are reinterpreted through culturally specific lenses and examines the role of organizational technologies like performance management in shaping ethical behavior. Theoretical interests include practice theories (Bourdieu), existential phenomenology, postcolonialism, and Aristotle’s virtue ethics.
Dr. D'souza’s recent work investigates practical wisdom in Indian socio-cultural contexts and the implications of teaching Western business ethics in non-Western settings. Her articles from 2024 emphasize cross-cultural ethics and embodied intuition, while earlier works (2018-2022) analyze how performance systems influence ethical decision-making in market economies. Her qualitative research methods, including arts-based approaches, highlight embodied and affective experiences in organizational settings.
Advising & Grants: She currently convenes modules like Introduction to Management and Leadership and Ethical Responsibility in Business. A recent research project (2024–2025) explores the impact of Western ethical frameworks on local practices. Her editorial roles span journals like Journal of Business Ethics and Culture and Organization, reflecting her contributions to academic discourse.
