Sylvain Arlot is a Professor of Mathematics at Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 since 2014, previously a CNRS Researcher at ENS Lyon from 2009 to 2014. His research spans probability theory and mathematical physics with significant contributions to theoretical frameworks in stochastic processes.
His educational background includes:
- Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR), December 2013
- PhD in Mathematics, Université Paris-Sud (Orsay), 2008, supervised by Wendelin Werner
- Studies at École Normale Supérieure (Paris), 2002-2006
His research focuses on Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) processes, critical percolation phenomena, and conformal invariance in statistical mechanics. Key contributions include advances in Liouville Quantum Gravity, Gaussian Multiplicative Chaos, and turbulence modeling through rigorous probabilistic methods. His work bridges abstract probability theory with physical applications in quantum gravity and fluid dynamics.
Notable distinctions include the ERC Consolidator Grant (2021), Junior Membership in the Institut Universitaire de France (2020), and the Prix Marc Yor (2018). He received the prestigious Prix Peccot from the Collège de France in 2013 for his early-career achievements.
Arlot has supervised five doctoral students including Juhan Aru (now EPFL professor) and Hugo Vanneuville (CNRS researcher at Institut Fourier). His research is funded by competitive European grants, including two ERC awards supporting investigations into stochastic processes and mathematical physics.
