Syed Ansar Tofail is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Limerick, affiliated with the Bernal Institute and Limerick Digital Cancer Research Centre. His research focuses on materials and surface physics at the interface of biology, medicine, and chemistry, with expertise in shape-memory alloys, piezoelectric ceramics, and antimicrobial textiles. He has pioneered eco-friendly energy harvesters and durable medical materials, saving millions in industrial costs through process improvements.
Education: BSc/MSc in Metallurgical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, PhD in Physics from University of Limerick.
Research interests include biomaterials, nanotechnology, and sustainable materials. His work addresses hospital superbugs, SARS-CoV-2, and energy efficiency. He has launched 3 startups, serves as CTO of Solpacity Ltd., and holds 15 patents with €21M+ in grants. His interdisciplinary approach spans materials science, biomedical engineering, and environmental sustainability.
