He holds a PhD in Biomedical Science (2018) and a Bachelor of Biotechnology (2012), both from Monash University. His research focuses on venomics, anti-cancer therapeutics, proteomics, and metabolomics, particularly using snake venom and jellyfish toxins. He leads the Monash University Malaysia Proteomics and Metabolomics Platform (MUMPMP) and has secured grants from FRGS, Wellcome Trust, and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
- Education:
- PhD in Biomedical Science, Monash University (2018)
- Bachelor of Biotechnology (Hons), Monash University (2012)
- South Australian Certificate of Education, INTEC Education College (2008)
His research interests include proteomic characterization of venoms, development of universal antivenoms, and application of mass spectrometry in biomedical research. Notable projects include the ‘Development of a Universal Antivenom’ (2022–2025) and ‘Anti-Cancer Activities of Snake Venom Proteins’.
Dr Asnawi has received awards for his Three Minutes Thesis (3MT) presentations in 2016. He teaches Biochemistry, Problem-Based Learning, and supervises student projects. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
He actively participates in workshops and conferences, including organizing the ‘Advanced Wound Care Workshop’ and ‘Monash International Wound Conference 2024’. His lab’s activities span from venom research to clinical applications, bridging proteomics with translational science.
