Swayam Prabha

Swayam Prabha is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. Her expertise spans Cancer Treatments, Drug Formulation, Nanomedicine, Nanoparticle-Biological system interactions, and Oncology. She actively accepts students to her laboratory and maintains a robust research program focused on translational approaches to cancer treatment.

Dr. Prabha received her PhD in Pharmaceutics and Drug Design from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, an MBA in Healthcare Management from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, and an MS in Pharmaceutics from Banaras Hindu University in India. Her educational background combines deep scientific knowledge with business acumen relevant to pharmaceutical development.

Her research interests center on translational research, particularly in ovarian cancer, targeted drug delivery, cell-based therapies, and nanoengineered stem cell therapeutics. Her laboratory focuses on improving mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) tumor homing and understanding the impact of anticancer drug loading on MSC biology. Her work has led to a patent (11684638) for a targeted delivery system. After completing her doctoral studies, she gained industry experience developing clinical formulations, several of which received FDA approval.

Dr. Prabha's publication record demonstrates a strong focus on nanomedicine and cancer therapeutics, with recent expansion into Alzheimer's disease research. Her work spans from fundamental nanoparticle research to clinical applications, with particular emphasis on targeted delivery systems for difficult-to-treat cancers.

Dr. Prabha has mentored extensively throughout her career, guiding 9 graduate students (7 PhD and 2 MS), 12 postdoctoral fellows, 2 research associates, and 4 undergraduate students. She currently mentors 2 postdoctoral fellows and serves on the advisory committee of a PhD student. Her former trainees have gone on to successful careers in both academia and industry.

Her laboratory represents an interdisciplinary research environment that bridges pharmaceutical sciences, nanotechnology, and cancer biology to develop innovative therapeutic approaches for challenging diseases with poor survival rates.
