Swapna Sundar serves as a Public Policy Scholar (Researcher) at The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy, where her work focuses on ethical and legal frameworks for rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology research involving persons with disabilities. A qualified lawyer, she holds legal membership on multiple Institutional Ethics Committees in Chennai and leads IP DOME Strategy Advisors Pvt. Ltd., specializing in intellectual property commercialization and regulatory compliance for medical devices.
Her research spans Rehabilitation Engineering Ethics, Disability Rights Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Smart Cities governance. She has published in The Hindu Business Line, Indian Journal of IP Law, and Economic and Political Weekly, and authored the book Occupy Marina! analyzing the 2017 Jallikattu Protest, alongside the IP Smart Workbook for inventors navigating lab-to-market pathways.
Prior academic engagements include teaching Intellectual Property Law at NALSAR University of Law, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), and Symbiosis Law School, plus a 2017 Technology and Law elective at the ACJ-Bloomberg Business Journalism program. Her professional portfolio features a Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project study on trade licensing rationalization and IP strategy work for the UK Intellectual Property Office.
