Sverre Aalen

Sverre Aalen (1909–1980) was a leading Norwegian biblical scholar and Professor of New Testament Theology at Det teologiske Menighetsfakultet (MF vitenskapelig høyskole) from 1959 to 1979. He earned his Cand. teol. in 1935 and a doctoral degree in 1951. Aalen contributed to Norwegian Bible translations and advocated orthodox theological positions, opposing female ordination.

Research Focus: His work centered on New Testament exegesis, with seminal studies on light/darkness motifs in Judeo-Christian texts. His doctoral thesis remains an international benchmark in biblical scholarship.
