Svenja Bethke is an Associate Professor in Modern European History at the University of Leicester and Director of the Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. She holds a PhD from the University of Hamburg (2014) and has conducted extensive archival research across Israel, Poland, Germany, and the U.S. Her research focuses on intersections of history, identity, and material culture, notably her Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship project on Clothing, Fashion, and Nation Building in the 'Land of Israel' (2019-2021), hosted at the Hebrew University Jerusalem.

Her research interests span modern Jewish history, Holocaust studies, and the role of material culture in shaping national identities. Current projects include examining transnational memory cultures and the social history of clothing in 20th-century contexts.
