Svend Bram is a Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel's Department of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics within the Faculty of Engineering Technology. His research focuses on energy system optimization, particulate matter emissions from biomass combustion, and advanced thermal systems like district heating networks and micro gas turbines. He has led 21 research projects since 2000, including high-profile initiatives such as the FIDT decarbonisation network and hydrogen-to-grid digital twin development. Bram has supervised over 100 academic works, including 3 doctoral theses and numerous master's projects on topics like wind turbine dynamics and oyster mushroom cultivation systems.
His recent work emphasizes 5th generation district heating systems, emission reduction technologies, and fluid dynamics modeling. Collaborations span European institutions, with active participation in conferences and workshops on energy transition and sustainable engineering. Bram's contributions to thermal energy storage, heat exchanger optimization, and biomass fuel quality assessment have been widely published in journals like Energy and Buildings and Energies.
