Sven Ouzman

Sven Ouzman is an Associate Professor in Archaeology at the School of Social Sciences, University of Western Australia. He holds adjunct positions at Curtin University and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. With a PhD from UC Berkeley and extensive experience in South Africa and Australia, his research focuses on rock art, heritage management, and Indigenous knowledge systems. Key projects include dating Kimberley rock art, managing heritage along the Fitzroy River, and promoting equity in cultural heritage protection. He has directed over 4000 rock art site surveys across Australia and Southern Africa, published over 70 academic works, and curated exhibitions. Teaching awards include the Australian Award for University Teaching and multiple UWA recognitions. His roles include Vice Chair of UNESCO's Rock Art Committee and advisor to World Heritage sites.
