Dr. Sven Magg is a Postdoctoral Teaching Associate at the Knowledge Technology Research Group within the Department of Informatics at the University of Hamburg, where he has worked since June 2011. He serves as the Programme Coordinator for the MSc programme "Intelligent Adaptive Systems" and focuses on research in neural networks, evolutionary computation, and self-organisation in bio-inspired systems.
- PhD in Computer Science (2012), University of Hertfordshire, UK, with a thesis on "Self-Organised Task Differentiation in Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Groups of Autonomous Agents"
- MSc in Intelligent Systems (2005), University of Sussex, UK, thesis on "CTRNNs and GasNets: A Comparison in Terms of Evolvability"
- BSc in Computational Engineering (2003), University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, thesis on "FFPop: Forward Chaining and Partial-Order Planning Combined"
- Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (2005), University of Hertfordshire, UK
Research Interests:
- Neural Networks: Neuromodulation in artificial neural networks, evolution of neural network controllers for artificial agents
- Evolution: Evolution of artificial agents and agent controllers, including neural networks and body plans
- Self-Organisation in Biological and Bio-Inspired Systems: Task differentiation, emergent behavior, specialisation, collective/swarm robotics
- Neuro-inspired Human-Robot Interaction
Teaching: Dr. Magg teaches "Research Methods" (lecture and practical tutorial) at the master's level during winter semesters but has no teaching duties in summer semesters or at the bachelor's level.
