Prof. Dr. Sven Klimpel leads the Integrative Parasitology and Zoophysiology (IPZ) department at the Institute of Ecology, Evolution and Diversity, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. His research focuses on medically relevant parasites, pathogens, and vectors, examining their ecology, evolution, transmission mechanisms, and impacts on human/animal health under climate change scenarios.
- Research Areas:
- Population dynamics and phylogeography of parasites
- Niche modeling and climate change effects
- Host-parasite interactions and pathogenicity factors
- Vector biology (e.g., mosquitoes, ticks)
- Molecular taxonomy and metagenomics
- Team:
- PD Dr. Elke Schleucher (Senior Scientist)
- Dr. Sarah Cunze (Project Manager)
- Dr. Dorian D. Dörge (Senior Scientist & Project Coordinator ZOWIAC)
- PhD candidates: Chinhda Sharif (Vector Biology), Anna Viktoria Schantz (Invasive Carnivores), Ajdin Skaljic (Citizen Science in Ecology)
Education & Teaching: Offers courses on ecological parasitology, animal physiology, and biodiversity impacts. Module details include field excursions and English/German bilingual instruction.
