Sven Dietrich is a Professor in the Computer Science Department at Hunter College, CUNY. His affiliations include the Hunter Computer and Network Security Lab, CUNY Graduate Center (Doctoral Faculty), and the IEEE Cybersecurity Initiative. He has served in leadership roles such as Program/General Chair for multiple conferences including SADFE 2020 and SACMAT 2022.
Education: Doctor of Arts in Mathematics (Adelphi University), with significant computer science work; MS and BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from Adelphi University.
Research focuses on computer/network security, cryptography, anonymity, and privacy. Key areas include DDoS/malware analysis, cryptographic protocol verification, and IoT security. He has advised numerous PhD/master’s students and contributed to anti-phishing technologies via Wombat Security Technologies.
Teaching includes courses on computer security, software design, and network forensics at Hunter College and CUNY Graduate Center. His work has led to impactful tools like VFuzz for IoT vulnerability detection and ZMAD for Z-Wave protocol security.
Awards include a Best Paper Award at the 2008 Malware Conference for groundbreaking work on P2P botnet analysis. He actively participates in academic service through roles like IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors and multiple conference committees.
