Sven Anders Johansson

Sven Anders Johansson is Professor of Literary Studies at Mid Sweden University's Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, a position held since 2017. His academic journey began at Uppsala University (1990), followed by doctoral studies at the University of Gothenburg where he defended his thesis in 2003. He has held visiting positions at the University of Copenhagen (1998-1999), University of Amsterdam (2012), Aarhus University (2018), and Akademie der bildenden Künste Vienna (2023).

Johansson's research examines critical theory through interdisciplinary lenses, including:

• Theories of subjectivity and subjectivation
• Ecocriticism and climate narratives
• Adorno and Deleuze studies
• Autofictional writing practices
• Political activism and cynicism
• Literature's social function

His work interrogates the crisis of the modern subject within technological and ecological frameworks.

His recent publications demonstrate strong thematic focus on literature's role in societal crises, particularly climate change and pandemics. Recurring examinations of autonomy, aesthetic theory, and academic methodology reveal consistent engagement with Adornian critical theory across diverse media forms including film and digital culture.

Johansson currently supervises doctoral candidates Osvald Wiklander and Joni Hyvönen. He maintains significant institutional service roles including editorial board membership for Glänta magazine, representation in Humtank, and steering group participation in Mid Sweden University's Network for Critical Theory.
