Suzanne Kell is an Assistant Professor of Education and serves as Department Chair at the Becker Center for Teacher Education, Illinois College. She plays a pivotal role in shaping future educators through the Teacher Preparation Program, with a focus on reading instruction and literacy development.
Education:
- M.S. in Education, Elementary Reading and Literacy (K–6), Walden University
- B.S. in Elementary Childhood Education, Eastern Illinois University
Her research centers on eliminating educational inequities in K–12 reading instruction and enhancing how preservice teachers are trained and mentored in reading pedagogy. She advocates for innovative, inclusive teaching practices that move beyond traditional methods to ensure all students achieve reading success.
With over 25 years of experience as a K–6 classroom teacher, Reading Interventionist, and Reading Coach, she brings deep practical expertise to her academic role. She is certified in Reading Recovery and holds an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Reading Teacher Endorsement.
Kell is actively involved in the development of teacher education programs, including the English as a Second Language and Reading Teacher Endorsement pathways, and is committed to transforming reading instruction through teacher mentorship and curriculum innovation.
