Suzanne Guertin is an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of St. Thomas School of Law and a Staff Attorney at Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS). Her legal practice focuses on family law and juvenile protection law, with an emphasis on cases involving the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). She collaborates closely with community agencies such as the Minneapolis American Indian Center, Ain Dah Yung Center, and the American Indian Family Center in St. Paul to support low-income clients, including victims of domestic violence and limited-English proficient individuals. Prior to her role at SMRLS, she worked at the Hennepin County Public Defender’s juvenile division and as a law clerk for the Law Office of Charles La Due, which served the White Earth Band of Ojibwe.
Guertin actively engages in professional development, presenting at the Annual NICWA Conference and serving on the Rules Committee for Juvenile Protection Procedure. Her work prioritizes stability for children and equitable access to justice for marginalized communities.
