Suzanne Bailey is a Professor of English Literature at Trent University in Peterborough, Canada, and currently serves as Associate Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. She holds a B.A. from Queen's University, and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on Victorian literature, Canadian writing, travel narratives, visual arts, and aging studies. She has authored Cognitive Style and Perceptual Difference in Browning’s Poetry and co-edited P.K. Page’s Brazilian Journal.
Her SSHRC-funded projects include studies on Canadian modernist printmaking, Inuit art, and gerotranscendence in later-life writing by Margaret Avison and Yeats. Past work includes editing P.K. Page’s collected works and researching Robert Browning’s later career. Teaching emphasizes ethical engagement with diverse perspectives through Victorian literature, travel writing, and women’s writing.
Key research areas include North-American and postcolonial women’s writing, visual arts’ intersections with literature, and aging’s literary representation. She contributes annual reviews on Robert Browning for Victorian Poetry, and her work appears in journals like Canadian Literature, Mosaic, and Women’s Writing.
Her interdisciplinary approach bridges literary analysis with visual studies, science, and gerontology. Current projects explore Inuit printmaking’s cultural significance and the role of creativity in later life through poetry and art. She collaborates with artists and scholars internationally, emphasizing cross-disciplinary dialogue.
