Suzan Meijs is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of Health Science and Technology, Faculty of Medicine. Her work focuses on neural engineering, biomedical engineering, and pain research within the Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain.
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering (2020): The influence of tissue responses on the electrochemical properties of implanted neural stimulation electrodes
- MSc in Biomedical Engineering (2016)
- BSc in Biomedical Engineering (2010) from University of Twente
Research interests span neuroimplants, neurophysiology, and translational pain models. Recent work emphasizes large animal models for pain studies, cortical excitability, and neurostimulation effects on mechanical sensitivity. Her 15 most recent articles show strong focus on electrocorticography, neural interfaces, and chronic pain mechanisms.
She received the 3rd Best Paper Award (2023) for collaborative work on ECoG arrays and spontaneous brain activity. As a project participant in Translational Animal Models of Pain (2015-2025), she works with W. Jensen and colleagues on ulnar nerve morphology, neuroplasticity, and in vivo neural recording methods.
