Susanne Wiesner is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, with affiliations in Plant and Earth Science and Biological Systems Engineering. She holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Alabama (2018), an M.S. and B.S. in Hydrology from Dresden Technical University, Germany (2010, 2008). Her research focuses on agricultural sustainability, global climate and land use change, greenhouse gas emissions, and ecosystem ecology, leveraging remote sensing, eddy covariance, and biogeochemical modeling to address environmental challenges in agroecosystems.
Key areas of investigation include optimizing nitrogen use in corn systems, quantifying soil health through microbial dynamics, and developing tools like Farmission for dairy farmers to reduce emissions. She has published extensively on topics such as GHG monitoring protocols, climate policy integration, and ecosystem resilience under drought conditions. Awards include the Dairy Innovation Hub Postdoctoral Fellowship (2020) and Inge and Ilouise Hill Research Fellowship (2016).
Her work bridges scientific rigor with practical applications, aiming to balance food security and climate mitigation. Recent articles highlight innovations in precision agriculture, carbon flux modeling, and inclusive fieldwork practices through networks like AmeriFlux. Collaborative efforts focus on merging eddy covariance data with satellite imagery to enhance spatiotemporal monitoring of agricultural GHG budgets.
