Susanne Thurow is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Study “Access to Cultural Goods in Digital Change” at the University of Münster and Associate Director Research at UNSW’s iCinema Research Centre. She holds a PhD in English Philology from Kiel University (2017) and has led the ‘Climate Aesthetics’ research program since 2021, focusing on immersive media and climate change reflection. Her work bridges theatre studies, digital humanities, and Indigenous knowledge systems.
Her research emphasizes interactive visualization, climate aesthetics, and Indigenous theatre practices. Collaborations include the Sydney Theatre Company, National Institute of Dramatic Art, and DAAD-funded augmented reality projects. Awards include the 2021 ASAL Alvie Egan Award and UNSW’s Art & Design Dean’s Award.
Thurow’s grants include an ARC Laureate Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021–25) and DAAD support. She coordinates interdisciplinary projects at the iCinema Centre and explores AI-driven climate communication. Recent work includes Climate Disaster Preparedness (Springer, 2024) and contributions to wildfire visualization systems.
