Susanne Rhein is a Lecturer at ETH Zürich's Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, concurrently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Center for Comparative and International Studies and the Institute of Science, Technology and Policy. Her research focuses on policy design impacts on public opinion regarding long-term climate interventions, particularly carbon capture and negative emission technologies. She holds a Master’s in Political Science from the University of Salzburg, with prior roles in Horizon 2020 projects and OECD research internships.
Her work bridges climate policy, political behavior, and experimental survey methods. Key research areas include societal acceptance of CO2 removal technologies, populist radical right gender gaps, and drought-induced political trust erosion in Sub-Saharan Africa. She has published in journals like the Journal of European Public Policy, Politics and Governance, and Climatic Change.
Rhein collaborates with institutions like the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and contributes to policy-relevant studies, such as analyzing West Africa’s climate agenda and Swiss public opinion on carbon removal. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates comparative political economy frameworks with empirical survey data.
