Susanne Koch

Prof. Dr. Susanne Koch is a faculty member at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), where she leads research in the Molecular Pharmacology department. She is a full member of the Graduate School of Neurosciences (GSN) and a regular member of the Munich Cluster for Neurosciences (MCN).

Prof. Koch's research focuses on retinal plasticity and she has made significant contributions to understanding retinal function, degeneration, remodelling, and therapeutic approaches for retinal diseases. Her work particularly addresses retinitis pigmentosa, a group of inherited retinal disorders.

Her publications demonstrate a consistent research program in retinal disease and gene therapy, spanning from basic mechanisms of rod cell death to genetic rescue approaches and late-stage treatment strategies. She has also investigated progressive neurodegeneration and vision restoration in animal models.

Prof. Koch supervises at least one student, Jacqueline Kajtna, indicating her ongoing contribution to training the next generation of scientists.
