Susanne Hochreiter is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of German Studies, University of Vienna, affiliated with the Faculty of Philology and Cultural Studies. Her research focuses on gender relations, queer theory, and comics studies, with a particular emphasis on German-language literature and visual culture. She leads the FWF-funded project 'Visualities of Gender in German-Language Comics' (2019–2023) and previously worked on 'Discourse Negotiations in Literature on Hermaphroditism'.
Her academic career includes visiting professorships at Wake Forest University (USA) and the University of Illinois. Hochreiter’s work explores intersections of gender, class, and sexuality through diverse media, including graphic novels and children’s literature. She has authored/co-edited books like *Queer Reading in den Philologien* and *Mann, Männer, Männlichkeit*. She contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives like the Research Platform GAIN (Gender: Ambivalent In_Visibilities).
Her recent publications analyze queer and class intersections, feminist linguistics, and spatial narratives in Kafka. She actively participates in academic conferences and public lectures on gender studies and cultural criticism.
