Susanne Dudman

Susanne Dudman is an Associate Professor of Virology at the University of Oslo (UiO), affiliated with the Institute of Clinical Medicine and the Department of Microbiology. She holds leadership roles in the Norwegian Society for Virology and is an editor for the Journal of Clinical Virology Plus. Her academic career includes roles as a Senior Consultant at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet and Senior Medical Officer at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (Folkehelseinstituttet).

Dr. Dudman's education includes a Cand. med (1991) and a PhD in Medicine (2003) from UiO. She has extensive clinical teaching experience in medical microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, UiO, and has contributed to medical training across multiple hospitals since the 1990s.

Her research focuses on viral pathogenesis, vaccine efficacy, and epidemiology of viral infections, with particular emphasis on hepatitis E, enteroviruses, and SARS-CoV-2. She leads global collaborations, including a phase 4 clinical trial of the hepatitis E vaccine in Bangladesh and studies on enterovirus surveillance in Norway. Her work spans clinical diagnostics, pandemic response, and public health interventions.

Her research networks include the European Society for Clinical Virology (ESCV), the European Non-Polio Enterovirus Network (ENPEN), and international partnerships in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Europe. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on viral infections in immunocompromised patients, pandemic dynamics, and vaccine development.
