Susanne Churchill, PhD, is an Executive Director of the Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and an Instructor in Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She holds dual roles as Executive Director of DBMI and oversees key initiatives such as the Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) Center of Excellence and the N-GRID Center of Excellence in Genome Science. Her career includes foundational contributions to the Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2) National Center, where she served as Executive Director and Co-Principal Investigator.
Churchill's research focuses on biomedical informatics, leveraging electronic health records (EHRs) for phenotyping, genetic studies, and clinical decision-making. She has pioneered high-throughput phenotyping methods and probabilistic record linkage techniques, advancing translational research in areas like inflammatory bowel diseases and psychiatric disorders. Her work bridges computational methods with clinical applications, emphasizing the integration of genomic, clinical, and environmental data.
Her leadership spans academic administration, grant management, and educational programs such as the Summer Institute in Biomedical Informatics (SIBMI).
