Dr. Susanne Burri is a Researcher at ETH Zurich's Department of Environmental Systems Science, affiliated with the Grassland Sciences Group. She currently serves as ICOS-CH coordinator and Research associate, focusing on project management and scientific research within the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) infrastructure. Her work integrates field experiments, data analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration to address climate change impacts on ecosystems.
Education includes a PhD in Environmental System Science (ETH Zurich, 2013), Master of Science in Environmental Geosciences (University of Basel, 2009), and a Bachelor of Science in Geosciences (University of Basel, 2006). She has extensive international experience, including studies at the University of Bergen (Norway) and collaborations with institutions like WSL and SCNAT.
Research interests center on carbon cycle dynamics in grasslands and forests under climate extremes, with a focus on drought effects, greenhouse gas fluxes, and ecosystem resilience. Her work spans experimental field studies, isotopic analysis, and long-term environmental monitoring at sites like Davos-Seehornwald. Recent publications address soil respiration, methane/nitrous oxide emissions, and vegetation responses to heatwaves.
Professional activities include science communication (e.g., 'Research Live' exhibitions), advisory roles on sustainable resource use, and educational outreach through field guides and workshops. She coordinates national and international research networks, emphasizing data integration and climate mitigation strategies.
