Susana Simal Florindo

Susana Simal Florindo is a University Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands. She is a member of the Agri-Food Engineering Research Group and serves as coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Chemical Science and Technology (UIB) since 2021. Her office is located in room EQ003 on the ground floor of the Mateu Orfila i Rotger Chemistry building.

Dr. Simal Florindo's research focuses on several key areas in food and chemical engineering. Her primary research interests include:

• Intensification of mass transfer processes
• Use of ultrasound in food processing and its implications for quality
• Mathematical modeling of agri-food processes
• Valorization of agri-food byproducts
• Characterization of products with designations of origin
• Sensory analysis

She has made significant contributions to her field with 147 scientific articles published in JCR-indexed journals, cited 5,335 times with an h-index of 41 (Web of Science, 2022). Her publication record also includes 10 articles in non-indexed journals, 4 reviews, 15 book chapters, and 5 co-authored books.

She has established international collaborations through framework agreements between UIB and institutions in Italy, Portugal, and France, and has conducted research stays at University of California-Davis (USA), University of Salerno (Italy), and AgroParisTech (France).
