Susana Peña

Susana Peña is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), where she serves as Chair and Graduate Coordinator. Affiliated with the School of Cultural & Critical Studies, she also contributes to Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies and American Culture Studies programs.

• Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from University of California, Santa Barbara (2002, 1997), B.A. in Sociology and Latino Studies from Amherst College (1994).

Her research explores intersections of race, gender, and sexuality within Latinx populations, focusing on transnational dynamics between the U.S. and Cuba. Current projects include analyzing sexual culture in Havana (20th-century U.S.-Cuba relations) and equity initiatives in higher education through the BGSU ALLIES program.

Key contributions include co-developing faculty training on bias, allyship, and privilege. She has received the Leadership as a Chair/School Director Award (2021) and Women of Distinction Award (2015).
