Susan Zhu is an Assistant Professor of Management in the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky. She earned her PhD from the University of Connecticut (2018) and BA from Wake Forest University (2012), with prior roles as a senior research associate at SHRM and visiting scholar at Georgetown University.

Dr. Zhu's research examines workplace decision-making, HRM practices, and interpersonal team dynamics including advice exchange, ostracism, and venting. Her work appears in the Journal of Management, Personnel Psychology, and MIT Sloan Management Review, focusing on improving organizational cohesion through leadership and social networks.
She currently leads a $3M Department of Defense grant (2025-2028) investigating military performance enhancement. With nearly $5M secured in research funding, she has collaborated with the Department of Commerce and White House on hiring modernization policies. Prior to academia, she consulted for IBM Talent Management on organizational change across healthcare, retail, and construction sectors.
