Susan Yang is Assistant Professor of the Practice of Piano and Director of the Community Scholars Program at the Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music. She is a Chinese American pianist celebrated for her compelling performances and dedication to inclusive programming that highlights works by women and BIPOC composers.

Her research and artistic work focus on piano performance, keyboard pedagogy, and expanding cultural representation in classical music. She is deeply committed to music education and social impact, advocating for diversity through performance, teaching, and community initiatives. Her innovative programming explores cross-cultural inspirations and historical connections in music.
Susan Yang co-founded A Seat at the Piano (ASAP), an internationally recognized resource promoting piano music by marginalized composers, which received the 2023 MTNA-Frances Clark Keyboard Pedagogy Award. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2022 by both the Nashville Area and Tennessee Music Teachers Associations. She also received the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award and has won top prizes in national and international competitions.
She actively contributes to music education through lectures, adjudications, and summer festival engagements across the U.S. and internationally. As Director of the Community Scholars Program, she leads a full-scholarship initiative fostering diversity, community-building, and socioeconomic mobility in music education. She serves on the boards of the Nashville Chamber Music Society and the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville, and was Immediate Past President of the Nashville Area Music Teachers Association. In 2024, she was appointed Translator in Mandarin by the Frances Clark Center to expand its global reach.
