Susan Scott is a Distinguished Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Australian National University (ANU), affiliated with the Centre for Gravitational Astrophysics. Her research focuses on gravitational wave physics, neutron stars, black holes, and multi-messenger astronomy. She leads projects such as the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery and collaborates internationally on gravitational wave detector networks including LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA.
Her work spans observational and theoretical astrophysics, with contributions to gravitational wave detection, neutron star equation of state studies, and black hole merger analyses. She co-authored over 336 peer-reviewed publications and secured major grants, including funding for advanced detector technologies and curriculum development initiatives.
Recent projects include analyzing gravitational wave triggers with Swift-BAT and Fermi-GBM, searching for fast radio burst coincidences, and developing Einsteinian physics curricula for K-10 education. She also investigates dark matter using gravitational wave data and explores cosmological parameters through lensing effects.
Her collaborations involve institutions worldwide, and her team operates the ANU 2.3m telescope for gravitational wave follow-up observations. She is a co-investigator in projects extending to 2030, maintaining ANU's leadership in gravitational wave astronomy.
