Susan Rowland

Susan Rowland is a Core Faculty member and Professor at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California, specializing in Depth Psychology and Jungian Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Newcastle and M.A. degrees from the Universities of London and Oxford. Her academic roles include Chair of the MA Engaged Humanities Program and teaching in the Doctoral Program in Jungian and Archetypal Studies.

Education: BA (Hons), MA (Oxford), MA (London), Ph.D. (Newcastle). Prior to Pacifica, she was a full Professor of English and Jungian Studies at the University of Greenwich, UK.

Research focuses on Jungian Arts-Based Research, ecocriticism, feminist theory, and detective fiction. Notable publications include Jung: A Feminist Revision (2002), C.G. Jung and the Humanities (2010), and the Mary Wandwalker Mystery series (2022–present). She co-authored Jungian Arts-Based Research and the Nuclear Enchantment of New Mexico (2021), exploring creativity and transdisciplinarity.

Professional affiliations include Founding Chair of the International Association of Jungian Studies (IAJS) and President of the Jungian Society for Scholarly Studies. She has delivered keynotes on transdisciplinarity, art as research, and Jungian psychology's role in addressing climate crisis.

Her mystery novels blend Jungian themes with feminist heroism, examining marginalized women in crises. Teaching emphasizes creativity, myth, and depth psychology's application to contemporary issues.
