Susan M. Schneider is an Associate Professor at Duke University School of Nursing, serving as faculty lead for the graduate oncology specialty. A certified clinical nurse specialist (ACNS-BC) and advanced oncology certified nurse (AOCN), she holds a PhD in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University, an MS from Texas Woman's University, and a BSN from the University of Akron.

Her research centers on mitigating symptom distress in cancer patients through innovative distraction interventions like virtual reality for both pediatric and adult populations, alongside developing tailored protocols to improve chemotherapy adherence. Current work includes a randomized clinical trial for oral chemotherapy adherence in breast and colorectal cancer treatment.

She previously chaired the American Cancer Society Peer Review Committee and served as president of the Oncology Nursing Society.
She leads an advanced cancer patient support group at Cornucopia House Cancer Support Center in Durham and collaborates with multidisciplinary clinical research teams on oncology nursing innovations.
