Dr. Susan Little is an Associate Professor in Earth Sciences at University College London (UCL), specializing in ocean biogeochemistry and trace metal isotope geochemistry. Her research focuses on using isotopic tools to study micronutrient cycling, contaminant fate, and Earth's oxygen evolution. She teaches courses such as Isotope Geology and Environmental Geochemistry, and contributes to the London Geochemistry and Isotope Centre.
Her research combines fieldwork in polar regions and fjords with laboratory analysis to trace metal dynamics in oceans. Key interests include the roles of copper, zinc, cadmium, and nickel isotopes in biogeochemical cycles, particularly in oxygen-deficient zones and anthropogenic contamination contexts. She also addresses equity issues in the geochemistry workforce, advocating for diversity and inclusion through initiatives like workshops and policy advocacy.
Recent work highlights include studies on North Pacific paleoproductivity, Greenland fjord micronutrient cycling, and the impact of acid mine drainage on estuaries. She frequently publishes on trace metal isotopes as environmental tracers and collaborates on projects assessing diversity in academic editorial boards and DEI challenges in geosciences.
