Susan Liebman

Susan Liebman is a Research Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Her work focuses on prion biology and the study of protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases, utilizing yeast models to understand mechanisms of misfolding and toxicity in conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS/FTD, and Huntington's diseases.

Research interests span prion propagation, cross-species aggregation mechanisms, and the development of yeast-based systems to model human proteinopathies. She has pioneered models connecting yeast prion behavior to human disease aggregates including Abeta, α-synuclein, TDP-43, and huntingtin. Her work explores chaperone interactions, autophagy modulation, and potential therapeutic interventions through genetic and chemical screens.
