Susan Havercamp

Susan Havercamp is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Psychology, and Genetic Counseling at Ohio State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Intellectual and Developmental Disability Psychology from The Ohio State University (1996–1998), an M.A. in the same field (1993–1996), and a B.S. in Psychology from The University of Iowa (1988–1992). Her research focuses on improving healthcare equity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), addressing mental health disparities, and training healthcare providers in disability competence.

Key roles include directing the Ohio Disability and Health Program, a state capacity-building initiative, and leading the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center. She contributes to the National Intellectual and Developmental Disability Health Surveillance workgroup and editorial boards of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Disability and Health Journal. Her work emphasizes health surveillance, intervention development, and provider education to reduce systemic inequities faced by marginalized groups with disabilities.

Dr. Havercamp has published extensively on topics such as mental health assessment in IDD populations, healthcare access barriers, and intersectional disparities. Her funded projects include CDC-supported health promotion programs and NIDILRR grants exploring self-report mental health tools for adults with IDD. She advocates for inclusive policies, as evidenced by her role in shaping Ohio’s 2020 Health Improvement Plan to prioritize disability equity.
