Susan Giaimo

Susan Giaimo, Ph.D., is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Marquette University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. She also holds adjunct roles at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Carroll College. Her research focuses on comparative politics of industrial democracies, health care policy, and the social determinants of health. Dr. Giaimo earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has held academic positions at MIT and postdoctoral fellowships at UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins University.

Her educational background includes a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has taught courses on comparative health policy, public policy in industrial democracies, and European politics.

Dr. Giaimo’s research interests include cross-national healthcare system comparisons, the impact of austerity policies on public health, and the role of social determinants in shaping health equity. She has published extensively on topics such as health care reform in the U.S., Germany, and South Africa, and has authored books like *Reforming Health Care in the United States, Germany, and South Africa* (2015).

She has received accolades including the Founder’s Prize from SASE and Fulbright grants. Her community engagement includes roles with Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM), the Marquette Autism Consortium, and Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative. She also contributes to public discussions on health policy through media appearances and op-eds.
