Susan Gault is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at the University of Sunderland's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She joined the university as a permanent full-time member of staff in 2022 after previously working as a Teacher Practitioner supporting the OSPAP program while employed by Boots.
Her research focuses on pharmacy education, experiential learning, and the evolving role of community pharmacists. Dr. Gault teaches pharmacy practice and clinical pharmacy across MPharm and OSPAP programs, with particular emphasis on helping students understand the role of pharmacists in the UK healthcare system and developing essential professional skills including communication, interpersonal, and managerial abilities.
She currently serves as module leader for PHA113, An Introduction to the Professional Practice of Pharmacy, the first-year module in the pharmacy program. Her teaching philosophy centers on preparing students with the broad skill set needed to practice effectively as pharmacists in various healthcare settings.
Before transitioning to academia full-time, Dr. Gault had a significant career in community pharmacy, spending 10 years working for Boots across the northeast region. During this time, she also served in an internal training role, supporting trainee pharmacists and newly qualified pharmacists, and delivered services training including vaccination programs.
She graduated with an MPharm degree from Aston University in 2009 and completed her pre-registration year with Boots in Blaydon. Her practical experience in community pharmacy provides valuable real-world context to her academic teaching and research.
