Irell and Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciencesمعرفی
Supriya Srinivasan, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Physiology at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). Her research focuses on understanding how complex biological networks regulate metabolic homeostasis and energy balance using C. elegans, mice, and human cells. She investigates the interplay between genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors in diseases like obesity and accelerated aging.
Education includes a B.S. in Biology from Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia, 1996) and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Missouri-Columbia (2000). Postdoctoral training included studies at the Gladstone Institutes (2001-2005) and UCSF (2005-2009) under Dr. Kaveh Ashrafi and Dr. Keith Yamamoto.
Her lab employs chemical biology, molecular genetics, proteomics, and lipid profiling to uncover pathways linking sensory systems to metabolic functions. Recent work includes discovering how bitter taste receptors in the gut influence metabolic health and how neuroendocrine defects contribute to metabolic disorders.
- Awards: NIH K99/R00 Award, Ray Thomas Edwards Recognition Award, Ellison Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Labs/Teams: Laboratory of Molecular Physiology and Chemical Genetics
- Key Themes: Gut-brain axis communication, metabolic set-point regulation, systems biology approaches to disease
