Suparna Chakraborty is Professor of Economics and Associate Dean for Academic Effectiveness in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of San Francisco. Her academic home is firmly rooted in the Economics Department where she contributes to both teaching and administrative leadership.
Her research focuses on the intersection of macroeconomics and international finance, with particular expertise in applied macroeconomic modeling, international financial systems, and development economics. Dr. Chakraborty employs dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models to examine banking systems, financial markets, and their strategic roles in economic development, technological progress, and crisis management.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on cultural and spatial dimensions of international finance, with recurring themes in foreign direct investment patterns, cross-border banking relationships, and the impact of cultural proximity on economic flows. Her work frequently appears in top international business and economics journals.
Dr. Chakraborty actively participates in major academic conferences including the Academy of International Business and Midwest Macroeconomics Meetings, and has engaged with notable economists including former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen whom she interviewed for USF's Silk Speaker Series.
Her professional activities extend beyond USF through affiliation with Columbia University's Center on Japanese Economy and Business, where she contributes to research on the Japanese financial system. She has also served as Faculty Director of Curriculum Development for the College of Arts and Sciences and participated in Federal Reserve Bank research initiatives.
