Sunil Prabhakar serves as Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University, having joined the institution in 1998. He held leadership roles including Head of the Computer Science Department from 2010 and inaugural Director of the Integrative Data Science Initiative in 2019.
His research centers on data management and security, with specialized focus on developing database systems for probabilistic and uncertain data while ensuring authenticity and integrity of outsourced databases. This work addresses critical vulnerabilities in cloud-based data storage where trust assumptions are compromised.
As Department Head, he spearheaded Purdue Moves expansion initiatives that drove record growth in enrollments, faculty hires, and revenue. This strategic leadership directly enabled creation of new undergraduate majors in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, alongside a professional master's program in Cybersecurity.
