Sundeep Rangan is a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and Associate Director of NYU WIRELESS, an industry-academic research center focused on next-generation wireless systems. He holds a B.A.Sc. from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, all in Electrical Engineering. His research spans wireless communications, signal processing, information theory, and control systems. He co-founded Flarion Technologies (acquired by Qualcomm) and contributed to Flash OFDM, a precursor to 4G/LTE systems.
Education:
- Bachelor of Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, University of Waterloo (1992)
- Master of Science, Electrical Engineering, UC Berkeley (1995)
- Doctor of Philosophy, Electrical Engineering, UC Berkeley (1997)
His research focuses on millimeter-wave 5G/6G systems, approximate message passing algorithms, and wireless networking. Key contributions include channel modeling via generative neural networks and energy-efficient mmWave receiver design. He has received the IEEE Fellow distinction and led projects funded by NSF, OPPO, and industry partners.
Notable collaborations include work on cloud-based robot control using 5G edge computing (with Ludovic Righetti) and multi-array designs for UAV communications. His teaching includes machine learning and communication theory courses.
