Sumita Chakraborty is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing in the Department of English at the University of Virginia, affiliated with the Creative Writing Program. Her scholarly work bridges poetics, environmental ethics, and modernist literature. She is the author of the poetry collection Arrow (2020) and a forthcoming scholarly book, Grave Dangers: Poetics and the Ethics of Death in the Anthropocene (University of Minnesota Press). Her peer-reviewed articles appear in journals such as Modernism/modernity and Cultural Critique.
Her research interests include the intersections of poetics with environmental ethics, modernist literary traditions, and interdisciplinary environmental humanities. She also explores contemporary creative writing practices and their societal impacts.
