Sumit Gulwani is a researcher at Microsoft in Redmond, WA, United States, specializing in AI-assisted programming and program synthesis. He is renowned for inventing the Flash Fill feature in Microsoft Excel and leading the PROSE research and engineering team, which integrates AI advancements into products like Visual Studio, PowerApps, and SQL.
- Education: PhD in Computer Science from UC-Berkeley; BTech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kanpur, where he received the President’s Gold Medal.
His research interests include AI-assisted programming, neuro-symbolic techniques, and methods to enhance Large Language Models (LLMs) with cognitive strategies. He has authored over 150 research publications and co-authored 11 award-winning papers, including test-of-time awards from ICSE and POPL.
