Sumikazu NISHIO

Sumikazu NISHIO is a Lecturer at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) in Paris, France, where he is affiliated with the Japan Department. He is also a member of the Center for Linguistic Research on East Asia (CRLAO), a joint research unit (UMR 8563) of EHESS, CNRS, and INALCO.

Dr. NISHIO specializes in Japanese linguistics with a focus on formal syntax and semantics of contemporary East Asian languages. His research interests include the structural properties of Japanese language and its relationship with other East Asian languages such as Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. As a member of Research Team II at CRLAO, he contributes to projects examining linguistic structures across East Asian languages, with particular attention to language contact phenomena in Northern China and historical evolution of Chinese.

NISHIO is actively involved in the East Asian linguistics academic community, participating in conferences and research initiatives organized by CRLAO, including the annual Paris Meeting on East Asian Linguistics (JLAO) and specialized symposia on language contact. His work intersects with broader research on Tibeto-Burman languages, as evidenced by his association with events like the upcoming 'Phon-udl: Phonetic Approaches to Under-Endowed Languages' workshop.
