Suchita Nadkarni

Dr Suchita Nadkarni holds the position of Professor in Cardiovascular Immunology at Queen Mary University of London's William Harvey Research Institute, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Her education includes a BSc in Biomedical Science from King’s College London and a PhD from University College London, where she studied regulatory T-cells in rheumatoid arthritis under Profs Michael Ehrenstein and Claudia Mauri. She has held postdoctoral roles in New York and at the WHRI, focusing on neutrophils in Giant Cell Arteritis and maternal immunity during pregnancy.

Suchita’s research centers on maternal immune system dynamics and their impact on pregnancy outcomes, particularly pre-eclampsia. She investigates neutrophil-T-cell interactions and their roles in placental development and cardiovascular responses, leveraging microscopy techniques like wide-field confocal scanning. Her work has received recognition, including a British Heart Foundation 5-year fellowship (2017) and the Wellcome Image Award 2017 for her Placenta Rainbow project featured in National Geographic.

Current collaborators include Prof Federica Marelli-Berg (internal) and clinical researchers like Dr Elena Greco and Dr Stamatina Iliodromiti.
